Pentagon doesn’t have a ‘specific number’ on how many files were leaked

THE U.S. Department of Defense said it still trying to understand the scope and scale of a leaked that saw various classified documents posted on social media.

The press secretary went on to say that they do not have any specific number of leaked pentagon documents identified and that they are still assessing the scope and scale of the leak.

The leaked documents appeared on a discord server around last month before spreading across various social media platforms and catching the media’s attention.

Meanwhile, the alleged files leaker named Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old airman in the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was arrested by the FBI on Thursday after the New York Times published his identity.

The leak contains photographs of classified U.S. documents that appear to show the military strength of Ukraine, including weapon configurations, battlefield maps, casualties from both Moscow and Kyiv forces, and even intelligence marked as ‘top secret’.

What’s also damaging about these leaks is that it appears to expose how the United States spied on its allies, including Ukraine, Israel and South Korea, which Seoul met with outrage, as previously reported last week. US officials have been scrambling to mend ties with its allies after its espionage was revealed, but experts say it’s an open secret that the US spies on its adversaries and allies alike.

On the other hand, Russia said that it was looking into the possibility of the documents being intentionally leaked in order to deceive and down play Ukraine’s military capabilities ahead of its rumored counteroffensive.
