THE Philippine Navy, led by Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta PN, Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy, signed a Memorandum of Commitment with the University of the Philippines Cadet Alumni Organization (UPCAO), represented by Ms. Maria Christina Cecelia C. Hernandez, Managing Editor of the Philippine Heroes Project, UPCAO, on March 04, 2025, at the Navy Headquarters in Manila.
This partnership between the PN through its Office of the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Civil Military Operations, N7 and the UPCAO will launch the “Sentinels of the West Philippine Sea”, a comic book series managed by the Philippine Heroes Project: Hukbong Bayani.
The initiative targets school-aged children, particularly those in grade school and high school, to highlight the heroic actions of soldiers and foster patriotism. The comic book will feature stories of Philippine Navy heroes, maritime history, the Philippines’ archipelago, marine ecosystems, and the Navy’s missions. It will be distributed to schools, especially in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), and made available digitally and on social media to reach a broader audience.
“This also aligns with the enhancement of our Navy’s strategic communications amid the rise of disinformation, misinformation, and propaganda by our adversaries. The publication of these reading materials amplifies our goal of carrying out more active, accessible, and coordinated dissemination efforts to increase public awareness and gain critical support across all sectors of society, including young Filipinos,” said Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta PN, Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy.
