PH Navy welcomes newest warship, the future BRP Miguel Malvar FFG06 – PF

THE Philippine Navy officially welcomed its newest corvette during an arrival ceremony with the Department of National DefensePhilippines Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., as the Guest of Honor and Speaker, along with Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines Ambassador Sang-Hwa Lee, and Flag Officer In Command, Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta on April 08, at Naval Operating Base Subic in Zambales.

The future BRP Miguel Malvar arrived from South Korea on April 4. It measures 118.4 meters in length, can sail up to 4,500 nautical miles, and reach speeds of up to 25 knots. This modern warship is capable of anti-ship, anti-submarine, and anti-aircraft missions.

Secretary Teodoro underscored the ship’s role in protecting Philippine waters and fostering interoperability with like-minded nations in upholding a rules-based international order. He also thanked the Republic of Korea for supporting the Philippines in building a stronger and more self-reliant defense force.

With this new addition to the fleet, the Philippine Navy continues to boost its capabilities under the AFP Modernization Program.
