Philippines’ House Speaker commends VP Sara’s decision not to request confidential funds

HOUSE Speaker Martin Romualdez praised Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte for opting not to request confidential funds for her office in 2024.

The Office of the Vice President sought P500 million in confidential funds, while the Department of Education requested P150 million for the upcoming year.

In a previous statement, VP Sara mentioned that she would no longer seek Confidential Fund, citing its divisive nature.

“We will no longer pursue the confidential funds,” Vice President Sara Duterte said.

According to Speaker Romualdez, the Vice President’s decision is the right one.

“I believe that’s the right decision, we hail VP Sara’s decision,” House Speaker Martin Romualdez said.

Meanwhile, Speaker Romualdez assures that the UniTeam remains strong, especially in its relationship with the Vice President.

“We always work together; it’s still a UniTeam. The president always wants us to work together, not just in Congress with the executive but as a country, so we will always strive for that,” he added.

He emphasizes that despite their differing beliefs, their common goal is to serve the Filipino people.

“As they always say, there will always be differences, but we will always work towards resolving those differences for the service of the Filipino people. That’s our primordial concern. We will band together and unite as one for the service of the Filipino,” he said.
