POLAND’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Arkadiusz Mularczyk, has called on the United States to mediate in the ongoing grain dispute with Ukraine.
Mularczyk expressed frustration with Ukraine’s treatment of Poland, given Poland’s significant support during the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He emphasized the urgent need to resolve misunderstandings, stating that the grain dispute harms both nations and distracts from their common goal of countering Russia.
Mularczyk criticized the EU’s involvement and argued against opening Polish borders to Ukrainian grain, fearing harm to Polish agriculture.
The dispute began when the EU decided not to extend restrictions on Ukrainian grain imports.
Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia responded with unilateral bans, prompting Ukraine to file complaints with the WTO.
Mularczyk suggested that the dispute serves the interests of Ukrainian oligarchs and global farms.
To recall, Poland has announced an end to its arms transfers to Ukraine, a day after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Warsaw of playing into the hands of Russia by banning Kyiv’s grain imports.
Warsaw is one of the main weapons suppliers of Kyiv however, ties have soured over the recent weeks amid the growing dispute over grain.
Polish Prime Minister, Mateoosz Moravietskee earlier warned that Poland could impose additional trade bans on Ukraine given that the Ukrainian authorities do not understand the degree to which Poland’s farming industry has been destabilized by foreign imports.
