Pres. Marcos’ foreign trips yeild P4-T worth of investments—DTI

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported a total of P4.019-T or US$72.178-B worth of investments across various stages, resulting from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.‘s visits to different countries.

DTI stated that the P4-T investment comprises 148 projects, as of the December 21, 2023, monitoring of consolidated and processed investments.

The mentioned investment amount falls into the following categories:

‘investment promotion agency registered with operations’ at $205.53-M or ₱11.4-M; ‘business registered’ at $983.21-M or ₱54.75-B;

IPA registration in progress operations (US$5.079-B or ₱282.8-B);

‘signed agreement with clear financial project value’ at $9.771-B or ₱544.152-B;

‘signed MOU or letter of intent’ at $28.529-B or ₱1.588-T;

and ‘confirmed investment’ not covered by MOUs/LOIs and still in the planning stage, amounting to $27.345 billion or ₱1.522 trillion.

The DTI’s monitoring includes business engagements during the President Marcos’ visit to Tokyo for the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit.

During this event, an additional US$263.08 million or ₱14 billion was added to the total value, covering nine investments in total projects.

IN DTI’s update on December 14, the agency added the presidential visit to the United States for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco.

This added US$672.3 million (or ₱37.2 billion) to the total value and six to the total number of projects.

These investments span the telecommunications, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, health sciences/pharma manufacturing/health services, and energy sectors.
