XI’s visit to Russia has been confirmed by the Kremlin.
He will be in Moscow from March 20 to 22 for a state visit.
President Vladimir Putin earlier invited Xi to visit Russia, amid Beijing’s offer from China to broker peace in Ukraine via their 12-point peace plan.
Xi’s state visit next week is the first since Russia launched its offensive on February 22, 2022.
The Chinese president’s peace plan offer, however, has been viewed with skepticism, particularly by western countries, given Beijing’s ironclad ties with Russia.
China’s role as mediator was seen following a major diplomatic breakthrough when arch-rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran announced that they were restoring their diplomatic relations after years of animosity between the two countries.
Both Iran and Saudi Arabia agree to revive their relations and reopen embassies thru the China-brokered negotiations in its capital, Beijing.
