Qatar sends 88 tons of relief aid to Libya

THE fifth and sixth planes of the Qatari Air Bridge left the oil-rich Gulf state earlier this week to help flood-affected victims in Libya.

The latest batch of relief aid included shelter supplies, electricity generators, food and relief materials, and medical equipment.

The powerful storm hit the North African country on Sunday, September 10, causing two dams to break and killing thousands of people.

According to scientists, the planet-warming pollution as a result of human-caused climate crisis made the deadly floods 50 times more likely.

The first two planes of the Qatari Air Bridge arrived in the Libyan city of Benghazi carrying 67 tonnes of humanitarian and relief aid on Thursday, September 14. The Libyan Red Crescent initially reported that 11,300 people had died from the disaster but the United Nations dramatically revised the death toll to 3,958 earlier this week.
