QATAR’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Gulf nation is open to facilitating talks between Russia and Ukraine if asked by international partners.
The ministry relayed the Gulf nation’s readiness to work towards facilitating dialogue and achieving peace in Europe.
In July, Qatar pledged $ 100 M in humanitarian assistance to the war-torn country.
Meanwhile, both Qatar and Russia are members of OPEC Plus, a grouping of oil-producing nations.
The Gulf state’s mediation efforts include a truce between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels in 2008 and 2010; mediated negotiations between the Lebanese government and Hezbollah also in 2008; mediating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in November 2012; and hosted negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban representative in 2013.
Since 2000, Qatar has been involved in several mediation efforts, both regionally and internationally, with the prisoner exchange deal between Iran and the US as part of its latest involvement as a mediator.
