Russian Black Sea fleet HQ in Sevastopol hit by rocket attack, governor urges calm

A rocket struck the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea fleet in Sevastopol, as reported by Mikhail Razvozhaev, the governor of the Crimean City.

Multiple Russian Telegram accounts published videos of the incident.

There were no immediate reports regarding casualties or damage.

One Russian serviceman was reportedly missing after having initially reported that he had been killed.

Razvozhaev called for calm in the wake of the incident and urged the public to report any debris discoveries to the authorities.

Razvozhaev also revealed that some debris from the attack had fallen near a local theater.

Concerned about potential follow-up attacks, he advised Sevastopol residents to stay indoors and avoid the city center.

Those living near the military facility were encouraged to take immediate shelter if they heard a siren.

Firefighters were working to extinguish fires resulting from the rocket strike.

Ukraine claimed responsibility the missile attack.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously threatened to destroy all ships of the Black Sea fleet and prioritize the expulsion of the fleet from its centuries-old home base.

Ukrainian forces have been launching regular attacks on Russian warships stationed in Sevastopol and various locations in Crimea.

Earlier on the same day, the Russian defense ministry reported successfully intercepting a Ukrainian guided missile and two drones off the West Coast of Crimea.

Shortly after the rocket attack, Governor Razvozhaev announced that the air threat had subsided but cautioned residents to avoid the central part of Sevastopol due to ongoing “Special Measures.”
