Singapore to train 100 nuclear energy experts

SINGAPORE has not decided yet whether to deploy nuclear energy but it is willing to explore the opportunities it can offer.

Despite not having any nuclear facility, Singapore is not ruling out the use of advanced nuclear technologies due to limited options for renewable energy sources.

The Southeast Asian country plans to use nuclear energy to reduce carbon emissions from its power sector and safeguard the nation’s energy security.

With this in mind, Singapore plans to build a pool of 100 nuclear energy experts and learn from the best minds when it comes to decision-making in this particular industry.

Singaporean officials assured the country has no plans to stockpile uranium – a heavy metal used in creating nuclear bombs.

The nation has not made a final decision yet on when to implement nuclear energy.

Singapore is not a signatory of the United Nations Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). The treaty is a legally binding agreement that prohibits the use of nuclear weapons among countries that have signed it.
