THE 20th China-ASEAN Expo provided an opportunity for Chinese consumers to explore a different range of products offered by different ASEAN member countries including Thailand.
Thai student Thanyaporn Ittichaiphol said he will not hesitate to recommend Thai cuisine to Chinese consumers and is hoping more of them will appreciate and patronize local products from Thailand.
“I know that the [China-ASEAN Expo is a] very big exhibition between China and the 10 member countries from ASEAN. I think it is a big exhibition that has local products from the businesses in every country that joins this exhibition.”
“Fruits and food from Thailand [are] very popular for the Chinese people. In the north of Thailand, we have Khantoke and Gaeng Hung Lay [which are] very delicious. I want Chinese people to know a lot about the very, very local food in Thailand,” Thai student Thanyaporn Ittichaiphol said.
Khantoke is a traditional form of dining offered to guests during lunch or dinner to celebrate any number of occasions.
Sometimes called “satok,” guests gather around a small round wooden table adorned with a tray of food while gaeng hung lay is a form of pork belly curry and one of the most iconic dishes of northern Thailand.
The 20th China-ASEAN Expo was held from September 16 to 19, 2023 at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and has attracted nearly 2,000 enterprises from 46 countries.
