Sudan’s paramilitary expands territorial control despite Saudi peace talks

THE deputy commander of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Abdel Rahim Hamdan Daglo, warned to seize more territories controlled by the Sudanese army as fighting between the two warring parties rages for nearly seven months now.

Abdel Rahim Hamdan Daglo is the brother of Hamdan Daglo, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces and deputy head of Sudan’s military government.

His announcement came after a series of territorial gains by the forces especially in the western region of Darfur.

On Monday, the paramilitary said they had taken control of the Belila airport and a nearby oil field in West Kordofan State but the Sudanese announced they had recaptured the said areas on Thursday.

After nearly seven months of fighting, the Rapid Support Forces has withdrawn its attention from the capital Khartoum, and has been advancing its operations in the central part of the country.

Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wabng Yi met with Malik Agar, deputy chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, in Beijing on Thursday to discuss the longstanding friendship of both countries and wished for the restoration of stability in the Northeast African country.

Data released by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data showed that the civil war has killed over 10,400 people and displaced millions more.
