Sweden pledges $5 million to NATO trust fund for Ukraine

SWEDEN’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that it will provide 50-M Swedish kronor, or about five million dollars, to NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package or CAP Trust Fund for Ukraine.

The money will be used to purchase military equipment, medicines, fuel, demining and personnel training, according to the defense ministry.

There is also a possibility of Sweden providing Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine which have already been tested by Ukrainian pilots. The Swedish-made multirole fighter aircraft can be armed with advanced air-to-air missiles, including very long-range weapons, and air-to-surface missiles and bombs.

On December 11, 2023, Sweden announced a new military package to Ukraine amounting to 1.4-B kronor to support the Ukrainians during the winter.

The total value of Sweden’s military aid to Ukraine stands at just over 22.2-B Swedish kronor or more than 2.1-B USD as of the 12th of December 2023.

Although Sweden is still waiting to be a full-fledged NATO member it showed it can be a trusted ally by pledging to send a battalion of around 800 soldiers as well as armored vehicles and combat cars in Latvia in early 2025.
