FIVE days have passed since Vice President Sara Duterte resigned as Secretary of the Department of Education, and the public’s reactions have been mixed.
On social media, numerous messages of gratitude and testimonies have surfaced.
Teachers are sharing testimonials about how Vice President Duterte’s initiatives have significantly eased their workloads.
Among them is Cherry Mirafuente, who openly identifies as a “Kakampink.”
She admitted that she did not vote for Vice President Duterte in the election.
Still, she appreciates the policies implemented by the Vice President, which have significantly benefited teachers.
“Kakampink here.. I did not vote for Sara as VP. But with all sincerity, I appreciated the policies she implemented that benefited the lowly teachers. I admired that what she decreed, no DepEd minor gods and goddesses could contradict,” said Cherry Mirafuente, who openly identifies as a “Kakampink.
She mentioned that Vice President Duterte listened to and addressed the teachers’ complaints promptly.
Some of these include the ‘no classroom decoration’ policy, removing administrative tasks, and giving teachers a one-month vacation.
Cherry emphasized that while DepEd has long been led by individuals from the education sector, none of them truly focused on the welfare of teachers like Vice President Duterte did.
“For so long, DepEd had been led by those who came from the education sectors yet none of them had ever truly looked into the welfare of the teachers. Sara as a DepEd leader has done well for the teachers,” Cherry added.
She hopes that the changes implemented by Vice President Duterte for the benefit of teachers will not be disregarded and will be continued by her successor.
“I just hope that the changes she implemented for the teachers’ benefits would not be cancelled out and would be upheld by whoever will replace her,” she expressed.
A former Palace official acknowledges that Vice President Duterte has achieved much as DepEd Secretary in two years.
“She has numerous accomplishments. That’s why I said it’s a significant loss for the Marcos administration with VP Inday Sara’s resignation,” according to Atty. Salvador Panelo, Former Presidential Legal Counsel.
Former Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo wonders why leftists fail to recognize Vice President Duterte’s achievements at DepEd and continue to criticize her.
“They are turning a blind eye and a deaf ear. There are still problems, but those significant issues are gradually being resolved as if she is slaying these like a dragon little by little,” stated Atty. Panelo.
Panelo added that Vice President Duterte could have achieved more, but it was time for her to resign as DepEd Secretary due to the increasingly dangerous situation and relentless criticism.
