Thailand launches second earth observation satellite

THEOS-2, Thailand’s second earth observation satellite, was sent into orbit fifteen years after the country launched its first satellite theos-1.

The satellite was launched from the French Guiana space center earlier this week.

Thailand time staff applauded at the launch station as the satellite detached from the Vega flight vv23 rocket and entered its orbit.

Theos-2 started transmitting signals less than two hours after it was launched.

The 425-kilogram satellite is tasked with security goals and disaster management by providing high-resolution imagery that will help improve the country’s space technology infrastructure and human resources, among others.

The satellite replaces Theo-1 which was launched on October 1, 2008, and has now reached the end of its lifespan.

The advanced space infrastructure is important in enhancing Thailand’s earth observation capability.
