Thailand strengthens fight vs online fraud

THAI Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin called for stronger measures against online fraud after he was targeted by scammers himself.

Srettha instructed the Digital Economy and Society Ministry to strengthen its crackdown on online fraud and center scams.

He also urged the public to follow the ministry’s advice on ways to avoid falling victim to scammers.

The police are also investing more time to track down those responsible, as the scammers are getting more complex and sophisticated in their techniques.

In recent cases, the culprits have used the names of high-profile businesspeople to persuade people to invest with them.

The Thai government reported around 365,000 cases of online fraud over the past year and a half-year, causing losses of 45 billion baht.
