The Philippine Tourism Awards: Recognizing tourism industry excellence

DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco convened the inaugural meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the Philippine Tourism Awards (PTA) on Monday (Apr. 7) at the DOT Office in Makati City, with attendance from key officials of national government agencies, DOT-attached agencies, and private sector representatives.
“This is a very important endeavor in that as we reward excellence, we inspire more of the same. And so, your participation in this initiative of the Department of Tourism will support our President’s earnest desire to see the transformation of the tourism industry towards the pinnacle of performance,” Secretary Frasco said, highlighting the vital role of the PTA in elevating industry standards.
The gathering marked a key step in institutionalizing the Department’s recognition program, which seeks to recognize outstanding individuals, enterprises, and local government units that exemplify innovation, professionalism, and the Filipino brand of hospitality and service, and have demonstrated excellence in the development and promotion of the country’s tourism sector.
Established through DOT Department Order No. 2024-0025, NEC serves as the oversight and policy-making body for the PTA. It is composed of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), alongside key officials from the DOT.
Also part of the national committee are officials from DOT’s attached agencies, including the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD), Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF), Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC), as well as a representative from the Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP).
