Towering ambitions: Talks underway to build world’s tallest building in Thailand

THAILAND is working on an ambitious plan to steal the title of owning the world’s largest building by constructing a tower higher than the famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

From its thriving tourism industry that attracts millions across the globe, Thailand shifted its gaze to the infrastructure sector, with hopes of achieving a significant milestone that could be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin met recently with representatives from Chinese and Arab companies to talk about strategies for constructing the world’s largest building in Thailand.

The investors included real estate developer Emaar Group which is best known for building the world’s tallest tower Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The man-made tower is part of the government’s plan to rejuvenate Thailand’s economy and attract more visitors.

The proposal also involves a large department store, a hotel, an entertainment center, a financial hub, and office spaces.

Thailand aims to attract up to 40 million tourists and generate a tourism revenue of 3.5 trillion baht in 2024.

Standing over 828 meters, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is currently the world’s tallest building. Saudi Arabia will attempt to surpass the record through the construction of the Jeddah Tower while Thailand is just starting negotiations for its ambitious plan.
