JUST last week, former U.S. President and now presidential candidate Donald Trump told a crowd of supporters that they won’t have to vote again.
This sparked outrage and raised questions, particularly among democrats. But what did trump really mean when he said this?
“I don’t care how, but you have to get out and vote. And again, Christians, get out and vote! Just this time, you won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years. You know what? It’ll be fixed. It’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore. My beautiful Christians, I love you Christians. I’m not Christian. I love you. Get out. You’ve got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not going to have to vote,” according to Donald Trump, Former President, United States.
Questions were raised and former United States President Donald Trump garnered violent reactions after making this statement at a turning point action summit in Florida last week.
There he told a crowd of Christians that they won’t have to vote anymore after the upcoming presidential election on November 5th.
In fact, Trump’s choice of words were labeled authoritarian and anti-democratic by democrats.
The former president told the crowd that if they wanted to save America, then they should vote together with their families, friends and everyone they know.
“Republicans must win. We have to win this election—most important election ever. We want a landslide that’s too big to rig. If you want to save America, get your friends, get your family, get everyone you know and vote. Vote early, vote absentee, vote on Election Day,” Donald Trump, Former President, United States added.
But in an interview with FOX News on Monday, Trump clarified what his remarks meant.
He said it’s true that Christians won’t have to vote again because the said group is known for not taking part in elections.
“I said, vote for me, you’re not going to have to do it ever again. It’s true.”
“Because we have to get the vote out. Christians are not known as a big voting group,” Trump added.
Trump stressed that he is simply urging the Christians to vote in the upcoming election, but after this, they won’t need to vote again as he will no longer need their votes.
“They don’t vote. And I’m explaining that to them. You never vote. This time, vote. I’ll straighten out the country, you won’t have to vote anymore. I won’t need your vote,” he added.
The 22nd amendment of the U.S. Constitution states that their presidents are limited to two four-year terms, a provision designed to prevent any president from holding office indefinitely.
Meanwhile, it can be recalled that Trump’s spokesperson said his remarks were about uniting the country and bringing prosperity to every American.
