SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team provided assistance to impoverished residents who experienced various crises in Marinduque from April 23 to 25.
Held at the Marinduque Municipal Hall, the initiative has aided 445 residents from Boac, Mogpog, Gasan, Buenavista, Torrijos, and Santa Cruz. They have received shirts, keychains, sockets, and balls for basketball and volleyball from Go. Meanwhile, in coordination with the LGU and concerned agencies, financial assistance was also provided to the beneficiaries.
Go then expressed his appreciation to the local officials in Marinduque, specifically Governor Presbitero Velasco, Jr., and Vice Governor Adeline “Lyn” Marciano Angeles, among others, for their service. He also recognized the efforts of local councils and barangay captains, appreciating their dedication to the welfare of their constituents.
Known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to the poor, Go, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, highlighted that there is a Malasakit Center at the Marinduque Provincial Hospital in Boac for those needing medical aid from government.
Go principally authored and sponsored RA 11463, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that brings together the agencies that offer medical assistance, namely the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, under one roof. Currently, there are a total of 163 operational centers nationwide, which helped over ten million indigent Filipinos.
Moreover, Senator Go reaffirmed his advocacy for more Super Health Centers nationwide, including two in the province. These centers are envisioned to enhance the availability of primary healthcare services, medical consultations, and early disease detection in grassroots communities.
