CITIZENS and residents across came together to celebrate the annual flag day as they pay homage to the iconic symbol of the nation and honor the legacy of its founding fathers.

On December 2, 1971, six of the emirates namely Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain agreed to enter into a union to form the modern United Arab Emirates, while Ras al-Khaimah eventually joined in January 1972 which completed the seven sheikhdoms.

The late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the first President of the UAE and is also known as the Father of the Nation.

His renowned patience, vision, wisdom, and the quality of being an unbiased mediator earned him the title of ‘the wise man of the Arabs’.

Meanwhile, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum who served as the former ruler of Dubai was considered the first visionary of the modern UAE who helped the so-called City of Gold transform from a simple fishing village to an international metropolis.

Every year on November 3rd, people in the Emirates celebrate the UAE Flag Day to remember the efforts of the founding fathers.

On Friday, Dubai marked the annual event with a magnificent display of 6,000 flags formed together to create a portrait of the four leaders of Dubai, namely the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, together with his three sons – the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Finance Minister Maktoum Bin Mohammed, and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council Ahmed bin Mohammed.
