NAGBIGAY ng kaniyang mensahe si Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte sa paggunita ng ika-10 anibersaryo ng Super Typhoon Yolanda nang humagupit ito sa bansa noong Nobyembre 8, 2013.
Sa kaniyang mensahe, inaalala ni VP Duterte ang mga libu-libong buhay na nawala dulot ng pagtama ng isa sa mga pinakamapangwasak na bagyo sa bansa.
“Typhoon Yolanda, left an indelible mark on our hearts, but it also revealed the extraordinary resilience and strength of those who were affected. In the midst of unimaginable destruction, we witnessed the unwavering spirit of Filipinos, who rose above adversity and rebuilt their lives with determination and courage,” pahayag ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Kahalagahan ng disaster preparedness at climate change mitigation, binigyang-diin ni VP Duterte
Sabi ni VP Duterte, ang nasabing paggunita ay magsilbi sanang paalala sa kahalagahan ng disaster risk reduction, climate change mitigation, at disaster preparedness.
“It is crucial that we learn from the lessons of the past and take proactive steps to prevent such catastrophic events from happening again,” diin ng Bise Presidente.
Kaugnay nito, hinimok ng pangalawang pangulo ang publiko na suportahan ang programang “PagbaBAGo, A Million Trees” ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) na layong magtanim ng isang milyong puno hanggang 2028.
Binigyan-diin din ni VP Duterte ang pag-invest sa resilient infrastructure, early warning systems, at edukasyon ukol sa disaster preparedness upang mapangalagaan ang mga komunidad at pagaanin ang epekto ng mga kalamidad.
Kinilala rin ng pangalawang pangulo ang dedikasyon at pagsisikap ng mga first responders, volunteers, at mga organisasyon na tumulong sa mga apektadong komunidad na hinagupit ng Yolanda hanggang na muling nabuo ang kanilang mga buhay at muling nagkaroon ng pag-asa.
“Today, as we remember the lives lost, let us unite in solidarity and recommit ourselves to creating a safer, more resilient future defined by sustainable development. Together, we can build communities that are better prepared to face the challenges posed by natural disasters and climate change,” ayon pa kay VP Duterte.
