VP Sara Duterte, assesses implementation of Catch-Up Fridays at Pasil Elementary School in Cebu City

VICE President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte embarked on a crucial visit to Pasil Elementary School in Cebu City, last February 2, 2024 to assess the implementation and effectiveness of the Catch-Up Friday’s initiative, which was introduced earlier this year in January.

With a keen interest in understanding the program’s impact on the school community, VP and DepEd Sec. Sara Duterte engaged directly with teachers, students, and staff members during the visit.

Initial feedback from educators revealed a positive reception to Catch-Up Fridays, as the dedicated day allows for focused attention on crucial areas such as reading, good manners and right conduct, peace education, and health education.

A tour of classrooms provided Education Sec. Duterte with firsthand insight into the program’s execution. Notably, the emphasis on enhancing students’ reading skills was evident, underscoring the initiative’s commitment to strengthening foundational, social, and essential competencies.

Catch-Up Fridays, a cornerstone of the government’s strong agenda, aim to equip students with the necessary skills in reading, writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills. She reiterated the importance of education to students, emphasizing its role as a pathway to a brighter future.

In addition to assessing the program’s implementation, VP Sara engaged in discussions with the school’s principal and teachers to address any concerns and identify areas for improvement. Expressing gratitude for their dedication to nurturing young minds, she reaffirmed the Department of Education’s unwavering commitment to supporting schools in their educational endeavors.

As the visit concluded, VP Duterte underscored the Department of Education’s relentless pursuit of Filipino students’ dreams and aspirations, emphasizing the government’s steadfast dedication to providing quality education for all.
