100-K former rebels expected to avail gov’t amnesty program

AT a recent news forum, National Amnesty Commission (NAC) Comm. Nasser Marohomsalic stated that the bulk of applicants are anticipated to be from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

Marohomsalic cautioned that the given number is tentative, with approximately 100,000 individuals expected to apply.

“So, we are aware that there are thousands lined up to file applications with us. The paperwork is being done by those organization granted amnesty. The MNLF, the MILF, the CPP and the Kapatiran and we are waiting for them, so let’s not rush,” said Nasser Marohomsalic, Commissioner, National Amnesty Commission.

The amnesty program covers members of the MILF, MNLF, and the Revolutionary Proletarian Army / Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB), as well as former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and their front organizations.

The amnesty process has recently begun following congressional approval of the presidential proclamations.

The NAC has also released rules for the amnesty, which allows individuals to clear past political offenses.

Applicants must file with a Local Amnesty Board for review, with a window of two years from the proclamation dates.
