DOZENS are missing after a Chinese fishing vessel capsized in the Indian Ocean.
According to Chinese state media, a crew of 39 Chinese, Indonesian, and Filipino sailors were missing at sea.
The Chinese vessel called Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028, capsized around 3 am, local time, on Tuesday.
The 39 crew consisted of 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesians, and 5 Filipinos.
Multinational search efforts are underway. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an all-out effort to rescue the crew, with China deploying two commercial vessels to the area to help with the operation.
Wang Wenbin, spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said more rescue personnel are rushing to the scene and vowed to continue to take all necessary measures with all parties to search for and rescue the missing sailors.
Philippine Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Teresita Daza, on the other hand, said they are aware of what happened and are closely monitoring the situation.
The Foreign Ministry of Indonesia also confirmed the incident and said that China was coordinating the rescue effort.
