Kuwait bans fast food in schools nationwide

KUWAIT’S Ministry of Education issued a public memo enforcing a ban on fast food products in all schools nationwide.

The memo issued by Kuwait’s Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities explained that the decision is in the interest of its students and in line with the healthy feeding standards set by the general food authority.

It added that fast food products contain large amounts of fats and high calories – devoid of nutrients, which causes serious health damage.

“This is in the interest of our students, and to implement the regulation for a healthy feeding standard set by the general food authority. Fast food products contain large amounts of fats and high calories – devoid of nutrients, which causes serious health damages,” said Kuwait’s Ministry of Education’s official statement on the fast food ban.

The memo was sent to school principals and kindergartens, with the ministry stressing the need to strictly adhere to the rules.

Delivery companies are banned from entering inside schools after the memo took effect earlier this week.

According to allied market research, the fast food market size was valued at $647.7 billion in 2019 and is estimated to reach $931.7 billion by 2027.

Meanwhile, a study conducted by the CEO World Magazine revealed that the United States ranks as the world’s most fast-food-obsessed country as of December 2022.

Excessive fast food consumption among children has sparked concerns in many schools worldwide, with experts calling the junk “new tobacco,” and authorities calling for restrictions to address obesity.
