Cambodian PM Hun Manet shows off diplomatic skills during ASEAN Summit

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet gained attention as the youngest-ever leader to attend an ASEAN Summit.

He also used the opportunity to demonstrate his diplomatic skills by holding talks with several world leaders.

The 45-year-old leader attended the summit at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and the Chair of ASEAN.

According to a government spokesman, Dr. Hun Manet gained attention in every forum and related meetings at the summit because he is the youngest Prime Minister.

Despite his age, the newly appointed prime minister had shown outstanding diplomatic talent and prowess when it came to high-level international dialogues with regional and world leaders.

The Cambodian leader attended a total of 32 meetings and interacted with at least 20 heads of state, government, and top leaders, as well as regional and international institutions.

It seemed like history repeated itself as Hun Manet’s father, former Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, also attended his first ASEAN Summit in 1999 in Manila, Philippines, making him the youngest ASEAN leader at 47 years old.
