China calls on Saudi Arabia, Iran to reject external interference

SENIOR officials from Saudi Arabia and Iran met recently in Beijing nearly a year after China brokered talks for the former rivals to reconcile.

It has been nine months since Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to normalize relations and end years of dispute in an official meeting mediated by China on March 10, 2023.

Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee recently met with the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia and China in Beijing.

Wang gave the former rivals three suggestions to enhance their bilateral ties.

First thing is to enhance mutual trust through dialog and consultation; Second is to expand personnel exchanges in various sectors; and the third is for both countries to reject external interference.

Wang reaffirmed China’s support for Arab and Muslim countries as well as the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.

It was the first time that the three countries held a trilateral joint committee nine months since Saudi Arabia and Beijing have reconciled.

Regular flights between Iran and Saudi Arabia are also being considered to mark an improvement in bilateral ties.
