Sen. Bong Go: ICC has no jurisdiction in the Philippines amid warrant vs FPRRD

Sen. Bong Go: ICC has no jurisdiction in the Philippines amid warrant vs FPRRD

NO arrest will be made to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, according to Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.

His words comes amidst the alleged issuance of an arrest warrant against Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He claims to have neither heard nor seen any official confirmation of the said warrant.

Moreover, he argues that the ICC has no jurisdiction in the Philippines since the country withdrew from the Rome statute back in 2019.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has repeatedly emphasized that the Philippine  government will not cooperate with any actions or investigations by the ICC.

“How will they arrest him without coordination with local authorities? Is that possible? As Former President Duterte said, they can find him in Davao City. How can you arrest him there without the cooperation of law enforcement agencies?” according to Sen. Bong Go.

Simultaneously, Go denies accusations linking him to any illegal activities with former President Duterte.

“I do not follow any illegal order, especially now that I am a senator. He has never given me any illegal order. If ever someone gives me an illegal order, I won’t follow any illegal order,” Go added.

Go also said he met with Duterte last week in Davao City after attending the Senate hearing on the controversial People’s Initiative (PI).

The senator states that Duterte is against the PI, particularly in how it is conducted and manipulated by those behind it.

“He [Former Pres. Duterte] is against the way [People’s Initiative] was conducted. The process of conducting this PI was rushed, and he believes that the way it was done isn’t right,” Go said.
