AN appeals court in Manhattan, New York, recently agreed to reduce former president Donald Trump’s $454 million civil fraud judgement to $175 million if he posts his bond within ten days.
The ruling also stated that the $175 million bond will remain in place until at least September, meaning a judgment against Trump cannot be enforced until then.
Meanwhile, in his Truth Social post, Trump stated that he would ‘abide by the decision and post either a bond, equivalent securities or cash’ to meet the court’s terms.
“We will abide by the decision of the Appellate Division, and post either a bond, equivalent securities, or cash,” Trump said.
In a separate ruling, Trump’s hush money trial was set to begin on April 15. This will force him to face a jury on criminal charges in at least one criminal case before the November election.
The trial date was confirmed by Judge Juan Manuel Merchan after dismissing claims of prosecutorial misconduct raised by Trump’s defense team.
The former president is facing charges related to a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The 34-count felony indictment alleges that the former president had falsified business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
This also means that Trump has to accommodate a busy campaign schedule while also defending himself in several other criminal cases.
