THE World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that a 59-year-old resident from Mexico was indeed the first human to have died from an infection caused by a subtype of avian influenza after contracting the virus a few weeks ago.
The Mexican resident was infected by a strain of the influenza A virus known as H5N2, according to the WHO.
It is the first time a human got infected and died from this type of Influenza A strain.
The H5N2 and another strain known as H5N1 have affected domesticated and wild birds around the world, with all continents already infected including Antarctica.
It is still unknown how the person got infected with the bird flu virus.
The Mexican man developed symptoms like fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea, and general discomfort.
He was bedridden in Mexico City for three weeks and later died due to complications from the infection.
The bird flu virus has killed millions of birds around the world, not only those infected but even those that are potentially exposed to the deadly strain.
