Air New Zealand to weigh passengers before flight

INTERNATIONAL passengers of Air New Zealand will soon be asked to perform a special flight request before they fly out of the country in the next few weeks.

Most passengers might find it odd but Air New Zealand will be asking them to step on the scales as part of a survey measuring the average weight of their customers, including their carry-on baggage.

The unusual request is part of the survey the airline carries out every five years.

While it might seem a little unusual, the survey is important for the airline to know the weights of everything that go on board the aircraft and used the results of the findings for future operations.

The process will be simple the passenger just needs to stand on one scale and carry-on luggage on another.

The survey will last for five weeks starting from June to July.

The airline assured that the survey is voluntary and records will be kept confidential.

The initiative needs at least 10,000 travelers to take part in the survey for the airline “to get a reasonable sample of the traveling public.”
