Britain’s King Charles III welcomes Japanese Emperor, Empress on state visit

THE Japanese Emperor and Empress were given the full splendor as they attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla gave Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako a grand welcome as they embarked on a three-day state visit to Britain on Tuesday.

Part of the welcome ceremony was the traditional carriage procession to Buckingham Palace.

The Japanese emperor and empress were welcomed with traditional pomp and ceremony marked with a spectacular show of pageantry.

Members of the British Royal Family as well as politicians joined Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the banquet.

The trip marked the Japanese couple’s second diplomatic trip overseas since Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne in May 2019.

King Charles and Emperor Naruhito delivered their speeches during the banquet. The British King welcomed back the emperor and empress and acknowledged the centuries-old ties between their countries while the Japanese royal recalled his time being a student in Oxford as a young man.

The visit was also symbolic for both countries as they hailed more than 400-year-old ties between Japan and the United Kingdom.
