CHINA has begun the drill bit for drilling the deepest oil and gas well in Asia, located in the Northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Chinese media reports citing project engineers said the drill bit began on Monday for the Yuejin 3-3 well in Xayar County of Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang.
According to project engineers, the drilling Yuejin 3-3 is part of an ultra-deep soil and natural gas drilling project known as ‘deep earth’ launched by Sinopec.
China touts the Yuejin 3-3 as hundreds of meters more than the height of Mount Everest.
The engineers assembled the drilling equipment at the site on Monday morning, and after the preparations, they began the operation of lowering the drilling bit to drill through the ground.
Engineers expect the drilling to reach a depth of 9.472 meters underground.
China has reportedly discovered more than 1/3 of underground oil and gas resources ranging between 4,500 meters to 10,000 meters deep, and some are even deeper.
