China, Russia pledge to strengthen cooperation on global strategic stability

THE 18th round of the China-Russia strategic security consultation held this week ended with a pledge to maintain global strategic stability between the two countries.

The consultation was co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in Moscow.

According to Wang, the talks showed the depth of the political mutual trust and the width of the strategic cooperation between China and Russia.

Wang traveled to Russia for a four-day diplomatic visit from September 18 to 21.

The visit involved a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.

During his meeting with Wang, President Putin assured that Russia is willing to cooperate with China in resisting unipolar hegemony and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Leaders from both countries also exchanged in-depth views on a wide range of issues and discussions with officials from Mongolia.

Mongolia is a landlocked country situated between China and Russia and is heavily dependent on imports from both countries.

Officials from the three countries agreed on the importance of enhancing interaction and coordination on international and regional issues.

During the consultations, Wang met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in which he hailed the “strategic cooperation” between the two countries including their shared commitment to a “multipolar world” and a “more just world order” – a perception opposed to the domination of the United States in global affairs.
