China’s Xi expected to talk with Ukraine’s Zelenskyy

THE president of China is reportedly going to talk with his Ukrainian counterpart in the near future.

Citing reports from people familiar with the matter, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This is the first time that the 2 presidents will talk to each other since Russia launched its offensive against Ukraine.

Apparently, Xi will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week, and then speak with Zelenskyy afterwards.

On the other hand, the Kremlin has yet to confirm if President Xi will be heading to Russia.

“As a rule, announcements of official foreign visits are coordinated synchronously by mutual agreement of the parties.”

“When there is such readiness, we will let you know,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

It can be recalled that Xi was expected to visit Putin later this year around April or May.

However, new reports reveal that it could possibly be much earlier.

It can be noted that China has been offering to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.

China earlier played a major role in sealing the agreement after Iran and Saudi Arabia tried for years to come up with a potential reconciliation, Beijing’s role in the agreement likely signals a tremendous diplomatic victory, especially as it also positioned itself as a possible mediator between Russia and Ukraine, via its 12-point peace plan, which calls for all parties to support Moscow and Kyiv in working in the same direction and resuming direct dialogue as quickly as possible.
