City Councilor assures good business climate in Davao City despite smear campaign

CHEF Patrick Co sees no reason for businesses not to thrive here in Davao City.

This is despite the negative news associated with the city recently.

This includes smear campaigns against the Dutertes, criticism of the war on drugs, frequent changes in the Davao City Police Chief, and harassment of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) members, particularly their spiritual leader, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy.

All of these have cast a negative light on the city.

“I’m from Davao, I don’t really feel it here. I can guarantee that there’s nothing to be scared of here in Davao, it’s still normal,” said Chef Patrick Co, Davao Businessman.

As proof, Chef Patrick is opening his third restaurant in Davao.

This signifies a good relationship between the local government and the business sector.

“I suggest even at night, go out! Right? That’s what our father Digong said, right? Go out! 11pm-12am, at midnight, walk around! No one will bother you. And I think right now you can still do that so I don’t think you should be afraid,” added Co.

This sentiment is shared by the majority of the Davao City Council.

According to City Councilor Tek Ocampo, potential investors have nothing to worry

“Many want to invest here in Davao City. I don’t see any problem, I don’t see any issues so far as their security, ensuring their business here—many want to invest in Davao City, that’s clear,” said Councilor Tek Ocampo, Davao City 1st District.

The people of Davao are aware that the national government is politicizing their city.

There have been attacks on former Davao Mayor, now Vice President Sara Duterte.

Recently, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte mentioned that the national government plans to issue him a suspension order.

However, despite this, nothing can stop Davao’s economic boom.

“You know, that’s the problem when we are politicized. But the good thing is the people already know the truth. People who really live in Davao City, who invested in Davao City, who have businesses in Davao City—they feel safe. And they feel assured that their business will not be affected by all these things happening around,” added Ocampo.
