Cruise ship passengers reject $15 million settlement

Cruise ship passengers reject $15 million settlement

PASSENGERS affected by the Covid-19 outbreak that plagued the ill-fated Ruby Princess Cruise in 2020 won’t accept the $15 million settlement offer.

The Australian cruise ship departed Sydney on March 8, 2020, for its 13-day cruise to and from New Zealand.

However, the cruise ship returned early because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Out of more than 2,600 people onboard, 663 people were infected and 28 died.

In October 2023, a federal court in Australia ruled that Carnival Australia violated the country’s consumer law for communication by assuring passengers of the ship’s safety before it sailed in 2020.

Carnival offered to settle the case for $15 million but the passengers returned with a counter-offer of $69 million.
