BINISITA ni Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani ang Basa Air Base sa Floridablanca, Pampanga, at ang Wallace Air Station sa San Fernando City, La Union, kamakailan.
Sa Basa Air Base, inikot ng delegasyon ni Nakatani ang mahahalagang pasilidad, kabilang ang mga sentro ng pagsasanay, mga hangar ng sasakyang panghimpapawid, at mga makabagong flight simulator.
Pagkatapos nito, nagtungo sila sa Wallace Air Station, kung saan itinampok ang Air Surveillance Radar System Acquisition Project na nagpapalakas sa depensang panghimpapawid ng Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Sa ilalim ng proyektong ito, pormal na tinanggap ng PAF ang isang fixed radar noong Disyembre 2023, na sinundan ng isang mobile radar noong Marso 2024.

Aniya, ang pagbisita ng Japan sa Pilipinas ay hindi bahagi ng Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) ng dalawang bansa.
“This is independent of the RAA. The RAA will mean interoperability already, but this is a domain awareness initiative, coupled also with, in the part of the Philippine Navy, the official security assistance that Japan provided,” wika ni
Teodoro.
Binigyang-diin ng kalihim na mahalaga ang pagbisitang ito upang ipakita kung hanggang saan ang kakayahan ng Pilipinas pagdating sa air defense identification zone nito.
“Doing awareness is extremely important so that we have a picture of what is happening in the airspace within our air defense identification zone. Because if we are not aware, then we will not know what threat exists. So, we are making our capabilities stronger and more precise,” aniya.
Samantala, kabilang din sa mga natalakay sa pulong nina Defense Sec. “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. at Japan Defense Minister Nakatani ang pagpapahusay ng defense cooperation sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Japan.
