DOT joins the National Arts and Crafts Fair 2024!

CELEBRATING Filipino creativity and heritage, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the National Arts and Crafts Fair at SM Megamall on Wednesday (October 23).

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bureau of Market Development, Promotions, and One Town One Product (OTOP) in collaboration with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, the fair showcases a diverse array of handmade products, including traditional textiles like the intricately woven T’nalak from Mindanao, eco-friendly home décor made from upcycled materials, and contemporary art pieces inspired by indigenous designs. Visitors can explore unique products crafted using age-old techniques from different regions of the Philippines.

The ribbon-untying ceremony was led by Secretary Frasco, DTI Secretary Christina Roque, DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Blesila Lantayona, and DTI-BMDPO Director Marievic Bonoan, alongside esteemed Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) Awardees.

Secretary Frasco’s presence underscores the DOT’s strong support for local Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), highlighting their vital role in promoting sustainable tourism, boosting local economies, and preserving the nation’s cultural heritage.

The event attracted government leaders, diplomats, key stakeholders, and visitors, including NCCA Executive Director Eric Zerrudo, Design Center of the Philippines Executive Director Rhea Matute and Climate Change Commission Secretary Robert Borje, all eager to experience the vibrant display of Filipino craftsmanship.

The National Arts and Crafts Fair continues through the weekend, from October 23-27 at SM Megamall Megatrade Halls 1-3, open daily from 10 to AM to 10 PM. The public is invited to experience firsthand the beauty of Filipino artistry and craftsmanship. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate Filipino culture and heritage!
