DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco met with Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP) President James M. Montenegro on Monday (October 14) at the DOT Central Office in Makati City to discuss key developments in Philippine tourism.
During the meeting, the TCP provided a comprehensive update on industry progress, including collaborations with local governments and private stakeholders, improvements in industry standards, and efforts to align marketing strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Philippine tourism products and services.
In response, Secretary Frasco outlined the DOT’s initiatives to strengthen the tourism value chain, highlighting partnerships with tourism-enhancing agencies, ongoing promotion of the country’s offerings, and a firm commitment to supporting the private sector. She emphasized the importance of fostering strategic partnerships among stakeholders to develop policies and programs benefiting the industry.
Furthermore, the DOT expressed its full support for the TCP’s efforts to expand its membership, ensuring equal opportunities for all accredited tourism enterprises to actively participate in shaping, implementing, and coordinating Philippine tourism policy, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the industry’s global competitiveness.
TCP Vice President for Visayas Peter Tay, DOT Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso, Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, Undersecretary Maria Rica Bueno, and Head Executive Assistant Frances Villarino also joined the Secretary during the meeting.
