DUBAI Can a green initiative launched in February 2022 – aspires to reduce the use of single-use plastics by the equivalent of more than 18 million bottles in the next two years.
More than 40 water fountains have been installed in Dubai since the initiative was launched two years ago.
An additional 30 water fountains will be installed across the city by the end of the year.
The installation of the water fountains aims to encourage people to carry refillable bottles instead of buying new ones.
Hundreds of companies have shown their support for the Dubai Can project.
The world produces an estimated 350 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, which could take up to 500 years to decompose, depending on their composition.
Experts warned that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050 and that marine life will be damaged beyond repair if people do not do anything to address the issue as early as now.
