Extreme heat to stay in Thailand until end of April

RESIDENTS and tourists in Thailand will bear the brunt of the El Niño phenomenon for a few more days before the situation improves.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, temperatures in Thailand may keep rising until the end of April.

The situation is expected to improve next month because of the onset of the rainy season.

Temperatures in Thailand will remain high from April 27 to May 2 but a change in wind direction will improve temperatures from May 3 to May 7.

Local authorities advised residents to take care of themselves from the extreme heat after 30 people died from heatstroke since the beginning of the year.

Apart from Thailand, the extreme heatwave has gripped parts of Southeast Asia for the second consecutive year.

The extreme heat has not only boiled Southeast Asia but also other parts of the world such as Europe, where more people are dying from heat stress in recent years, according to scientists.
