FILIPINOS in Japan remain safe after the magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit the coastal prefecture of Ishikawa, according to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.
Philippine Ambassador to Tokyo Mylene Garcia-Albano confirmed that they have not received any reports of any Filipinos being hurt in the earthquake.
Albano said many people have returned home from the evacuation centers, including Filipinos.
“There are Filipinos we talked to yesterday who said they are back home.”
“They said that 154 of them were in an evacuation center but they said that they have already returned home,” according to Philippine Ambassador to Tokyo Mylene Garcia-Albano.

Albano added that so far no Filipinos have expressed that they need help from the Philippine government.
She said the Japanese government is also active in providing assistance to all those affected by the earthquake.
“As of now, the assistance from the Japanese government is very active to the people in the area where the earthquake happened. They have many evacuation centers that have been opened today, the shelters. Even those people who have problems as of now,” Albano added.
On Wednesday morning, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida once again led the meeting of the Committee on the Emergency Response.
“He [Prime Minister Kishida] stated that he is in close contact with the local government official to continue to inquire from them what exactly they need in terms of help to get there as soon as possible,” she said.
The Japanese government will deploy another thousand rescue personnel to the areas affected by the earthquake to speed up recovery and rescue operations.
Right now, Albano said that aftershocks continue to be experienced in Ishikawa Prefecture.

She said the Meteorological Agency of Japan has warned of impending heavy rain.
“There’s also a new warning. Because there might be heavy rain in the prefecture of Ishikawa. And they said to be careful against landslides,” Albano stated.

Meanwhile, Albano also confirmed that there were no Filipinos on board Japanese Airlines plane that caught fire at Haneda Airport.
“We are so happy to report that there are no Philippine passport holders on that flight. Everyone was successfully rescued from the plane. It’s just that 14 people were injured. But again we will be able to confirm with Japan Airlines that there are no Filipino passport holders onboard,” she stated.
