Generals’ walkout during command conference could be dangerous if true─retired Philippine Army

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) firmly denied the spreading news of generals walking out of a command conference with top officials of the country at the general headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo on July 4, 2024.

According to the spokesperson of the AFP, such reports are fake news.

‘’The walkout incident you’re referring to in the command conference is fake news. I was there personally. Nothing of that sort happened,’’ Col. Francel Margareth Padilla Spokesperson, AFP said.

There was no walkout among the generals and the command conference was held in a professional and orderly manner.

However, for Col. Segundo Metran, a retired member of the Philippine Army, it would be dangerous if generals really did walk out of a command conference.

‘’Now, if it is true that it happened, it is dangerous. We have a problem if that really happened because the armed forces would be divided,’’ Col. Segundo Metran (Ret.) – Philippine Army

And if there is a division within the military, a coup is not far off based on past events such as the EDSA People Power.

Thus, Metran advises the commander-in-chief.

‘’I am calling on our President to reform. You still have a chance to reform. Now, if you do not reform—you won’t last until 2028,’’ Col. Segundo Metran (Ret.) – Philippine Army

In the end, as a former man in uniform, Metran hopes for unity among the military.
