ELIGIBLE government employees will receive their mid-year bonus starting May 15th this year.
This was confirmed by Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman in a press briefing in Malacañang on Tuesday.
Pangandaman added, this will greatly help the daily needs of government employees.
In this regard, the budget chief reminded all government agencies and offices to ensure the prompt and timely release of bonuses to their employees, based on policies and regulations.
“As always, we remind all government agencies and offices to ensure the prompt and timely release of bonuses to their employees, in accordance with our existing rules and regulations,” according to Sec. Amenah Pangandaman, DBM
The mid-year bonus is equivalent to one month of basic pay of qualified government employees as of May 15.
It is given to eligible employees who have worked for at least four months from July 1, 2023 to May 15, 2024.
The DBM further announced that the employees should still be in government service as of May 15 of this year.
“The personnel must still be employed in government as of May 15 of the current year and should have received at least satisfactory performance rating in the most recent rating period or applicable performance appraisal period,” Pangandaman stated.
The mid-year bonus will be granted to civilian personnel, including regular, casual, and contractual employees.
Apart from them, military and uniformed personnel will also be given a mid-year bonus.
Meanwhile, the allocation of the mid-year bonus for staff in provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays will be assigned by their sanggunians, subject to policy conditions for the purpose under DBM Budget Circular No. 2017-2.
On the other hand, the DBM maintains its supports for the provision of salary increases for government workers.
“If you remember, we provided 40 million pesos to GCG to hire a third party to study what the amount is, what kind of increase we can give and then how much increase we will give,” she stressed.
The DBM first assured that the “comprehensive study” regarding the potential salary adjustment for government employees will be completed in the first half of 2024.
The Compensation and Benefits Study is led by the DBM and the Governance Commission for Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations (GCG).
The said study is currently being conducted which examines various aspects of the current compensation system, including wages, benefits and allowances, to identify areas for improvement.
“So, hopefully they have given a midterm report, hopefully by June we’ll have the final report,” she added.
