Heavy rain, thunderstorms as severe weather hits Australian states

AUTHORITIES issued severe storm forecasts for Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. This is the second storm to hit south-east Queensland within twelve hours.

The storms were predicted to continue along the entire Australian east coast until Tuesday, December 26.

Parts of Queensland experienced huge hailstorms due to the severe weather.

Electric company Energex has recorded about 151,000 lightning strikes across south-east Queensland in two hours.

One woman died after being hit by a falling tree on Monday and more than 100,000 homes were left without power.

The intense storm was powerful enough to uproot trees and collapse roofs which injured some residents.

Australia’s east coast is battling another storm as residents in Far North Queensland continue massive clean-up and repairs from the aftermath of former tropical cyclone Jasper.
