Hundreds of animals dead from Bangkok’s massive market blaze

ANIMALS which included dogs, cats, birds, geckos, rats, and snakes were burned alive amid the raging inferno on Tuesday.

The pet zone has long received criticism for the alleged poor living conditions of the animals which led to high rates of disease and death.

Authorities ruled that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. No humans were hurt or injured in the incident.

The massive blaze destroyed more than 100 shops which covered an estimated 15,000 square feet, based on preliminary investigation.

The pet zone which is the market’s most controversial trade is open during the whole week and is subject to regular inspections.

Chatuchak is one of the biggest markets in Southeast Asia which attracts nearly 200,000 tourists on weekends alone.
