Iran ignores G7 calls to stop supporting Hamas

IRAN’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the statement by the Group of Seven (G7) nations to refrain from support for Hamas as well as support for Hezbollah and other non-state actors.

Foreign ministers from G7 nations also urged the Islamic Republic to end actions that could further destabilize the Middle East as they gathered for a two-day meeting in Tokyo earlier this week.

The top diplomats from Japan, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom also reiterated their unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense and the protection of its citizens by international law.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanani criticized the group’s statement and demanded for the foreign ministers to fulfill their responsibility such as condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza which he said is a violation of human rights and international law.

Iran, which supports Hamas financially and militarily, denied any involvement in the surprise attack launched by the group which led to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Skirmishes between Lebanon’s militant group Hezbollah and Israeli troops on the northern border have also escalated since the conflict broke out.

The Islamic Republic however insisted that the resistance groups in the region are acting independently.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned anew that the spillover of the conflict in Gaza has become ‘inevitable’ as fighting between Israel and Hamas entered its fifth week.
